From Karen’s:

1. Grab the book nearest you. Right now.
2. Turn to page 56.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post that sentence along with these instructions in your LiveJournal.
5. Don’t dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.

Paul Auster‘s Oracle Night on my bed side table.

On the night before their wedding, however, Flagg has another one of his spells, during which he is visited by the knowledge that Bettina will betray him before the year is out.

What were the chances that I’d get something so banal from Paul Auster??

  1. haha i was in the hospital when i read this
so my closest book was a handbook of medications
so i landed with ‘nitrolingual pumpspray’ that treats angina XD
at least your sentence was cool~

  2. The closest one is the graphic novel Red Son, which is about Superman if he was raised in communist Russia. There’s nothing on page 56 (it’s a title page) but page 58 features this zinger from Lex Luthor:

“You were supposed to steal Moscow, not Stalingrad.”

Unfortunately, that’s sentence one. Sentence five is a boring “Where’s Brainaic?” from Supes. Yawn.
